Mystery on the Mountain: The Disappearance of Joseph Helt

The Disappearance of Joseph Helt

Missing Person Case Still Haunts Ellenville New York

By: Joseph Giacalone

On January 16, 1987, Joseph David Helt left an outdoor party in a deserted ski lodge known as the Mt. Cathalia Lodge in Cragsmoor which is located in the mountains near Ellenville, New York. He was never heard from again. Bad weather, snow and windswept roads on the following day made searching for the teen impossible.

Joe is described as a white male, light brown hair, brown eyes, 17 years of age, approximately 150 pounds and was last seen wearing a camouflaged jacket, gray hooded sweatshirt, long sleeved flannel shirt and white high top sneakers.

The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) is investigating and carrying the case as a missing persons case and there is too much speculation out here on the web. There is no evidence of foul play. The official case classification is Missing.

Anyone with information that is relevant to the missing case of Joseph David Helt should contact the New York State (BCI) at 845-626-2800.
