Christmas Day Rape and Murder Solved With DNA

Victim's Body was Wrapped in Blanket

Spokane police solved the 1986 Christmas Day murder of Dorothy Burdette with DNA. Detectives submitted a blanket and the victim's bra that genetic material was on. The DNA recovered from these items helped identify the perpetrator, Gary Lyle Trimble, who was subsequently arrested and charged with the crime.

The police are trying to tie Trimble, now 62 years old, to other cold cases in Spokane. He is currently being held on $1 million bond.
